The Department of Surgery is pleased showcase the incredibly creative and diverse activities of our faculty. These activities reflect the Department’s deep commitment to improving health and advancing knowledge, both locally and globally, through rigorous and impactful inquiry. We are incredibly proud of our visionary successes in fetal diagnosis and treatment, transplantation immunobiology, trauma prevention and physiology, stem cell and regenerative medicine, vascular biology, global surgery and health equity, and surgical quality and outcomes. These advances have been fueled by our history of robust funding from the National Institutes of Health which has distinguished us a leader in academic surgery.

The goal of the Collaborative for Surgical Health Outcomes, Research, and Equity (C-SHORE) group is to empower and inspire the pursuit of improved healthcare value and equity for surgical patients through health services research. We host both guest speakers for informative discussion and work-in-progress sessions designed to serve as forums for investigators, faculty, fellows, and students to present their ongoing projects and receive constructive feedback from colleagues.
