Microsurgery Fellowship Program
The microsurgery fellowship program at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) is designed to provide comprehensive training in microsurgical reconstruction as well as provide opportunities for fellows to pursue their own interests. The fellowship starts each year at the beginning of August and finishes at the end of July.
Opportunities:
- Busy transgender surgery practice
- Busy microsurgical breast practice
- Frequent orthopedic oncology and trauma cases requiring microsurgical reconstruction
- Optionally work with ENT for head and neck reconstruction experience
- Interdisciplinary upper extremity nerve practice
- Fellows complete at least 120 free flaps. Non microsurgical case numbers vary based on fellow interests.
- Tailor your schedule to your interests
Responsibilities:
- Attend all free flap cases within the plastic surgery group
- 6 weekends of attending level call with senior attending as back up
- Additional complex reconstructive cases at the discretion of the faculty or the fellow's interest
- Attend clinic one day per week when this does not conflict with OR responsibilities
- Participate in resident education
Benefits:
- Salary is at the PGY-6 level and includes a housing allowance. The total salary for 2020-21 was $88,505.68. Salary scales are posted each year here.

Eligibility:
- U.S. citizen or permanent resident (Please Note: The UCSF Microsurgery Fellowship is unable to sponsor visas for international applicants, including applicants from Canada who do not possess a valid US Permanent Resident Card.)
- Qualifies for a full, unrestricted California medical license
- Completion of a Plastic Surgery Residency Program
